What to expect at IFA Berlin

The main event for consumer electronics in Europe, IFA in Berlin will buzz with the biggest trends including Connectivity, artificial intelligence, voice control and 5G this year. All those will be on show across the whole network of global IFA events this year – from the world’s largest technology show, IFA Berlin, to IFA events like CE Week in June in New York and CE China in Guangzhou in September. Along with a host of shows, there is a new floor named IFA Next, the innovation hub for a startup to showcase their success and growth. IFA is a global platform for retailers, manufacturers, innovators, media and consumers.

What is IFA?

IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin is one of Europe’s biggest tech shows that presents the latest products and innovations in the heart of Europe‘s most important regional market. It offers a comprehensive overview of the international market and attracts more than 1,814 exhibitors and trade visitors from more than 120 countries, over 18,014 square meters. Held from 6th – 11th September, IFA 2019 became the main meeting place for key retailers, buyers, and experts from the industry and the media. Each year, IFA reinforces its role as the leading showcase for the global technology industry only to keep getting bigger and making additions to the show plan.

IFA 2018 was noteworthy for hosting not only more innovation and product launches than any previous event but also for presenting more digital lifestyle products in one place than any other show worldwide.

What to expect from IFA 2019

IFA Berlin Event will showcase a plethora of innovative gadgets covering TVs, Laptops, Headphones, Smartwatches, Smartphones, PC Sticks, Speakers, and the list just does not end. So here is the list of what we might expect at this year show.

LG

LG will be launching a few devices this year at IFA. According to the leaked reports, LG will be unveiling LG G8x, foldable smartphone and few other budget smartphones. LG G8x would be the successor of LG G8 ThinQ. LG G8X will be the first smartphone by the Korean electronics giant to come with the in-display fingerprint sensor, becoming the first of LG’s smartphones to feature that technology.

The new teaser by LG hints they are launching a detachable dual screen. The attachment is more or less similar to a folio case but comes with a 6.2-inch OLED panel. Even though LG has not confirmed the phone yet, there is a good chance that it might be dubbed the V60 ThinQ. Apart from supporting a Dual Screen attachment like its predecessor, the phone is likely to have 5G support as well

HMD Global

HMD, the home of Nokia phones will be unveiling a bunch of Nokia devices – Nokia 5.2, 6.2 and 7.2. Naturally, each one would be an incremental update to its predecessors, with better specs and imaging being the stand-out features. Out of these, Nokia 7.2 will be a powerful smartphone featuring a circular camera module with a slim smartphone body. Nokia 6.2 will feature 48-megapixel sensors, which might have Carl Zeiss branding and rumoured to be paired with a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens.

Vivo

Vivo will be launching its iQOO gaming phone in 5G – Vivo iQOO Plus 5G. The iQOO Plus 5G is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor since it is to be a game-centric processor. It is also revealed that the handset will be equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage with 4,500mAh battery that will carry support for 44W fast charging. The teaser also showcased the rear design of the smartphone which includes a triple camera setup at the top-left corner.

Sony

Sony’s phone division isn’t really big enough to hold a special event. So IFA provides the platform to release their products, across multiple categories, in a single press conference. The big phone this year could be the Xperia 2, might feature have a 6.1-inch display with 21:9 aspect ratio. The inside features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6GB RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. We might also see an upgraded pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones.

Fitbit

Fitbit doesn’t announce any major products at IFA, but with leaked pictures and user manuals suggest there will be a new Fitbit Versa 2 at IFA this year. The most significant addition would appear to be Alexa support, so you can control it without touching the screen. Apart from specs, it will look very familiar to first-generation Versa, with the usual heart-rate and fitness monitoring, contactless payment and notifications onboard.

Acer

Acer has confirmed to host a press conference at IFA that they hosting a press conference at IFA on 5th September. Acer will have a new line-up of gaming laptops as well as the laptops with the latest specs upgrades. Even Acer debuts concept products, such as the Predator 21X gaming laptop or the Acer Predator Thronos gaming chair. Expect to see innovative products from the company.
