How does it feel out of the box?
Going Bezel-less is the way forward and a lot of manufacturers have been adapting to this changing trend. Xiaomi did it first with the Mi Mix, LG came close with the G6 and now Samsung has joined the party with their new flagship- the S8.
How does it perform?
We would have really loved to see the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor making it to India as well. However, due to certain reasons best known to Samsung, we have to make do with the EXYNOS 8895 Octa processor. Even the Adreno 540 is replaced Mali-G71 MP20 – EMEA for our market. Basic multitasking, heavy apps and games run smoothly more or less but that is something basic to expect out of a flagship device. The 2K display is bright and vivid and it is one thing that feels really special on this device. But if you end up damaging the same, it would be cheaper to buy a mid-segment smartphone!
Samsung TouchWiz UI running on Android Nougat feels quite similar to all Samsung devices, basically, we had the Samsung A5 2017 for a test as well and the UI’s of both the devices look similar.
At the back is a 12MP shooter which comes with a f/1.7 26mm lens which clicks great pictures. The OIS makes sure that you images are not blurred out even if you have really shaky hands like me. 8MP front camera is good for selfies and comes with face detection, a good feature but its Chinese rivals have already sharpened their selfie game. The Iris Scanner is a welcome feature and can come in handy during a lot of situations, basically unlocking the phone by scanning your eyes. 3000mAh means you can just about make it through the day without charging, however, we would have loved to see a bigger battery especially with this QHD bezel-less display on offer.
Should I buy one?
If you are in the market for a premium top-end smartphone, the S8 will impress you on its design front. Convincing iPhone loyalists to migrate towards Android is still a tough task especially with the new iPhone around the corner. The Indian market variant misses out on the Snapdragon 835 processor and the upcoming OnePlus 5 is highly anticipated to come with the same and that too at a much cheaper price!
