Samsung Galaxy Fold – Does it Hold?

This is the re-birth of Samsung Galaxy Fold, in its first life it died a painful death without even leaving the nursing home to go home. It got the ire of all the tech reviewers and geeks alike while we all applauded the disruption and futuristic working device in the boring bar-shaped smartphones of today which all look like clones of each other give or take a few makeovers. Samsung folded its first fold and came back operating all the problem areas and the answer is the New Galaxy Fold – clean, almost no flaws, powerful and a conversation starter. Yes the moment you place the Fold on the dinner table or flip it open, it will turn heads and what will follow is a barrage of questions, but the answer we are trying to find is does the Samsung Galaxy Fold really holds? At first, some of my friends said it looked like a Nokia communicator, but it’s a really pathetic comparison and I can be put behind bars for daring to say this. But the form factor yes, and the communicator in those days was solid without any seamlessly connected screen which opens up to the 7.3-inch dynamic AMOLED display with QXVGA resolution with millions of pixels which means that whatever you are binge-watching or consuming will look very sharp. Let me explain QXVGA display which simply means 1536 x 2152 pixels resolution.

Is the Galaxy Fold phone capable of replacing a tablet? Well yes and no, firstly let me tell you its very delicate, the moment you hold this in your hand the shiny metal and glass will feel very premium but it’s a tad heavier and you will like to use the case which comes along with the box, the sound quality is top-notch and a bunch of people can enjoy a movie in a car without connecting it to external speakers. Well, then is that the right use for it? if you want to give a presentation, it will be awkward unless a smart cover which can make it support and make it stand on tabletop comes up. But it’s a perfect device to carry it to a bar and on a smoke break, show slides of whatever you are trying to sell. You also don’t need to unfold the device every time to do your daily chores, making calls, texts, booking an uber, but if you are on youtube and watching something the moment you open the Fold, it takes the bigger screen and that transition is seamless and beautiful. In fact, any app that you are using on a small screen continues working on the big screen. This continuity is what Samsung guys have nailed it. Also, Google Maps on a big screen gives you a much bigger picture of your geography. The smaller display is 4.6-inch super AMOLED display along with selfie cameras. All in all, it has a total of 6 cameras with three cameras on the rear – ultrawide, telephoto and the main sensor. When you open the fold, there are two more cameras which are great for taking selfies and video calling. It takes a beautiful and sharp picture so no complaints on the camera, it performs as impressive as the Galaxy Note series.

The tech specs will keep the Galaxy Fold relevant for at least 3-5 years. It is equipped with the latest powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 12 gig of RAM and 512GB of internal storage and this explains why there is no lag on this device. Multitasking is as fluid as Virat Kohli playing cricket and football together. The battery life with 4380 mAh will last one and half-day and if you don’t unfold it, then maybe 2.5 days, but if you have this fold how will you resist not unfolding it?

What we think!

Now coming to the question, does Samsung Galaxy Fold really hold? Yes, it holds if Rs 1,64,999/- does not look like a steep price to you, if you want a wow factor or a conversation starter and if you are those breed who are early adopters and who want to flash the latest and the greatest piece of technology. It has its own flaws while we hail it a tech marvel and the first big bold step towards foldable screens. It also keeps us glued for the next sequel which will be even more robust and replace the plastic screen inside which has a constant fear of chipping it every time you unfold.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is a stunner with powerful specs and it has set the tone for the future with a refreshing change from all the boring and look alike shapes and designs available today. It is not meant for everyone and the entry barriers have been fenced with a premium price of Rs. 1,64,999/-
