Ever since its entry into the Indian market in 2013, HONOR has been one of the primary smartphone choices for the audience. Staying true to its long-term commitment to the Indian market and its focus on quality, HONOR has been responsible for introducing some of the most cutting-edge technological innovations for the consumers in India. HONOR has had an interesting journey in India, from becoming the leading global smartphone e-brand by recording 6 billion USD in sales revenue in 2015 to becoming the first smartphone player in the world to introduce the AI Camera. HONOR is also credited for introducing eight world’s first technologies with HONOR View 20 including the 48-megapixel camera, which has become a key feature in the new smartphone releases.

The HONOR 20 is the HONOR’s latest camera smartphone of 2019 and we must say that HONOR has truly packed a punch in its latest offering. HONOR 20 features a 6.26-inch punch-hole display, the powerful Kirin 980 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB built-in storage and a monster 48MP rear camera combined with a depth sensor. The phone also has the 16 MP super wide-angle camera feature, allowing users to take some amazing pictures. In addition, HONOR 20 provides users with a 3rd and 4th camera. Both are 2 MP sensors, where one allows users to sense the depth that creates a deep background for great portraits while the other macro lens allows users to capture detailed close-ups.

The speciality of the HONOR 20 is the rear camera with its quad camera setup. All four lenses work best depending on the scene requirements. The primary snapper remains an incredibly high-resolution 48-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. Other sensor includes 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 2-megapixel dedicated macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera sports a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. You will love the wide-angle lens of the camera because as it will allow you to click some excellent pictures for e.g. when you need a wide angle shot while clicking a photo with large groups of friends. The new lens also unlocks a new macro mode, which allows you to shoot your subjects from a mere 4cm away. Incredible shots can be captured with its 48-megapixel main sensor. By default, the HONOR 20 utilizes pixel binning to use that 48-megapixels sensor to produce a 12-megapixel image. There is also an option to shoot at 48-megapixels.

The HONOR 20 captures outstanding photos in daylight. Even in challenging conditions, the 48-megapixel sensor offers impressive dynamic range and punchy colours. With an f/1.8 aperture, the low light shot does capture incredible shots without compromising on image details. The depth sensor can even help to differentiate background and the subject to capture highly detailed portrait shots.

The AI Ultra Clarity Mode in HONOR 20 allows users to capture images in an ultra-high clarity and provides lossless quality images. The AI mode automatically boosts the saturation and makes the colours stand out resulting in beautiful pictures. For nighttime photography, the HONOR 20 has the AIS Super Night Mode, allowing users to click clear pictures at night. Supported by EIS, the HONOR 20 also allows you to shoot videos in UHD 4K through the rear cameras, and up to 1080p in the front cameras.

The HONOR 20’s camera gives you some amazing shots and is even capable of giving the Pixel a run for its money. With such performance, HONOR 20 is one of the best camera smartphone available in the market currently.

There is no denying that HONOR 20 is a gorgeous looking smartphone. The aluminium frame is sandwiched by the glass from both sides. The device feels light at 174g and offers a good grip that feels comfortable even when you are using it single-handedly. Unlike HONOR View 20, the HONOR 20 does not offer the in-famous headphone jack. But to compensate, the brand does ship a type-c to 3.5mm converter inside the packaging. Surprisingly, the phone features an IR blaster, which is rarely found on a smartphone and it does have great use cases.

Apart from the finish, the main talking point in terms of design is the presence of the punch-hole cut out for the front camera instead of the notch. At the rear, a camera slot places three cameras including the LED flash. The macro lens is situated beside the camera slot.

At the front, the LCD display made it impossible to fit the fingerprint sensor under the display and HONOR was not convinced to leave a biometric fingerprint sensor at the back, opting to instead put a fingerprint sensor within the power button situated on the right side. It’s surprisingly responsive and works far better with the thumbs. Why? Because naturally the thumb is nearest to the sensor and it can also cover the whole sensor.

The HONOR 20 features the flagship processor – Kirin 980 SoC. The HONOR 20 managed a blistering 3252 on single core and 9712 in multi-core on Geekbench 4, if you wanted its performance translated into numbers. Other specs include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which can be further expanded with microSD card. The HONOR 20 outperforms most other devices when it comes to gaming. I played PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9, Modern Combat 4 at maximum settings and the entire experience was great. Throughout my gaming sessions, I did not notice any lag or shutter, thanks to the Kirin chipset combined with GPU Turbo 3.0 technology in the phones.

Although HONOR’s new Android interface is called the Magic UI, the HONOR 20 user interface looks a lot similar to the previous EMUI interface. Magic UI is actually a rebranding of EMUI interface, but HONOR promises to differentiate between EMUI and Magic UI. Also, the HONOR 20 runs Magic UI 2.1 which is based on Android 9 Pie operating system.

As for the battery, the HONOR 20 packs a 3750 mAh Li-Po battery, which was plenty to get through the day while managing social media apps, email and listening to music. Charging is quick with up to 22W fast charging, HONOR calls it the SuperCharge fast charging technology. I was able to charge the device up to 50 per cent in under 30 minutes.

The HONOR 20 is beautiful as well as a powerful smartphone. While it does have excellent features, the camera truly stands out for us. HONOR has truly focused on enhancing the camera experience for its users and it is arguably the best camera smartphone that we have seen, capable of giving other smartphone devices a run for their money when it comes to camera quality.

The HONOR 20 will be priced at INR 32,999. Further instilling confidence, HONOR has come up with first of its kind challenge, where it will offer up to 90% Buy Back Guarantee in 90 days on HONOR’s “Love it or Return it Challenge”. Customers using the HONOR 20 can return their smartphone before 90 days if they do not like the device.
