ASUS TUF FX504 Review: In a TUF spot

Build

The build quality of the TUF FX504 is just as good as any ASUS laptop we’ve seen in this price bracket. A combination of aluminium and plastic makes it sturdy and durable. The laptop is thick, as expected from a gaming laptop. The Republic of Gamers(ROG) logo on the back glows red once you open the lid, that gives a nice touch to this laptop. All the ports are located on the left side, it comes with a  charging port, Ethernet port, HDMI port, a couple of USB ports, and the audio combo jack on the left side. There is only a Kensington lock on the right side of the machine. The built-in speakers sound decent enough to make out a bit of depth but not bass, which is to be expected. You would definitely use a headphone while gaming, but other stuff such as watching movie and music can be done on laptop speakers. The laptop utilizes the headphone/microphone combo jack.

Performance

The FX504 is an excellent device that can perform process intensive multiple tasks rather than just gaming. This laptop sports 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8750H processor paired with 16GB DDR4 memory for multitasking and a 240GB SSD to significantly improve Windows load times as well as improved gaming performance. It has an additional 512GB of storage, thereby making it possible to store and save ample amount of store important data. Talking about the display, this laptop comes with a 15.6-inch full HD 1080p IPS display, making it good enough display for a hardcore gaming. Fitted with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, the FX504 can handle high graphics games like Battlefield 1 and Dota 2 at medium settings. It renders graphics clearly, with no noticeable frame drop – then again I’ve been running non-resource heavy games. Although, the fan tends to get quite loud and noisy after prolonged use; on a positive note the FX504 doesn’t overheat easily due to the dual fan pipes which also block dust from entering inside.

VERDICT

The ASUS TUF FX504 is a surprisingly good gaming laptop that offers premium chassis that make it more appealing to gamers and sufficiently more powerful than the GTX900-series gaming laptops.
