Apple has launched the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR today. Apple unveiled the new smartphones at the Steve Jobs Auditorium among much fanfare. The new devices are upgrades to last year’s iPhone X, which marked the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.
Apple iPhone XS specifications, price and availability
The iPhone XS comes in a stainless steel body with glass back just like last year’s model. The smartphone is equipped with Apple’s new upgraded A12 Bionic chipset. The A12 Bionic is the first 7nm chipset ever featured in a smartphone. The company has added that the chipset has 4 efficiency cores and 2 high-performance cores alongside an 8 core Neural Engine.
The iPhone XS comes with the dual camera setup as seen on the iPhone X. It has a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and another 12-megapixel wide angle lens with a f/1.8 aperture. The front-facing camera on the iPhone XS is a 7-megapixel lens with a f/2.2 aperture with support for Bokeh mode. With the help of the A12 Bionic chipset and the added IR sensors in the notch, the iPhone XS is able to take bokeh shots and adjust the depth of field even after taking a picture.
The display on the iPhone XS is a 5.8-inch OLED display and stretches edge-to-edge just like last year’s model. The notch at the top consists of the same IR sensors and dot projectors which help in utilising the FaceID lock. The resolution on the iPhone XS is 2346×1125 pixels, which Apple now calls as Super Retina. The smartphone also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.
The smartphone is available in Gold, Silver and Space Grey colours and starts at a price of $999. The iPhone XS is available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB internal storage options. The smartphone runs on iOS 12, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
The iPhone XS is available for pre-order from September 14 and goes on sale from September 21, with the device expected to arrive in India on 28th September. The smartphone will also include support for dual SIMs with the help of eSIM.
Apple iPhone XS Max specifications, price and availability
The iPhone XS Max is the bigger flagship variant of the iPhone XS. It has a 6.5-inch Super Retina Display with a resolution of 2688×1242 pixels. The company has added that the display on both the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XS have a 120 Hz refresh rate.
It carries the same notch at the top with the IR sensors and dot projectors. Apple iPhone XS Max has the same design aesthetics as the iPhone XS. It has a stainless steel casing that is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. Running at the heart of the device is the latest A12 Bionic chipset with 8 cores dedicated for AI processing.
The iPhone XS Max too has the same 12-megapixel dual camera setup as the regular iPhone XS. One telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and the other being a wide angle lens with f/1.8 aperture. With the help of the onboard Neural Engine on the A12 Bionic chipset, the smartphone is able to create bokeh shots and adjust the depth of field after the shot is taken.
The iPhone XS Max starts at $1099 and is available in Gold, Silver and Space Grey colours. In terms of internal storage, the iPhone XS Max comes with 64GB, 256GB and 512GB.
The iPhone XS Max will be available for pre-order from 14th September and will finally go on sale on 21st September.
Apple iPhone XR specifications, price and availability
The iPhone XR comes with a 6.1-inch LCD Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 1792×828 pixels. The smartphone comes with Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chipset just like the flagship iPhone XS and XS Max.
In terms of camera specifications, the iPhone XR has a single 12-megapixel camera with a f/1.8 aperture which is capable of taking bokeh shots too. The new chipset helps to adjust the bokeh effect even after the picture is taken.
The iPhone XR does not include 3D Touch and the smartphone gives to a haptic feedback to invoke the 3D Touch menu. Other features also include an IR sensor and dot projector in the notch. The design aesthetics of the smartphone is a mixture of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X.
Starting at a price of $749, the iPhone XR is available in Black, Coral Blue, Yellow and Grey. The smartphone will be available with 64GB, 256GB and 512GB of storage options. It is up for pre-order from October 19 and sales will begin on October 26.
Apple Watch Series 4 specifications, price and availability:
Apple has refreshed its smartwatch with the new Apple Watch Series 4. The smartwatch has a 30% larger display than Series 3 Apple Watch.
The speciality of the latest Series 4 is that the company has added electrical sensors to detect heart rhythm. With the new sensors, users can conduct an ECG test right from the Apple Watch. Through the health app on the smartphone, ECG reports can also be exported and shared as a PDF document.
Another new addition that the company has brought to the Series 4 is fall detection. With the new gyroscope and accelerometer sensors, the Apple Watch is able to detect if the user has fallen. Furthermore, if the smartwatch does not detect any movements after more than a minute after the fall, it automatically sends out a distress call.
In terms of specifications, the Apple Watch runs on a new Apple S4 64-bit dual-core chipset. The smartwatch retains the same features from the Series 3 model is continues to be water resistant. The company also claims that the smartwatch is able to provide 18 hours of battery life.
The smartwatch will receive the watchOS 5 update that rolls out on September 17
The Apple Watch Series 4 starts from $399, with the LTE model costing $499. Sales of the Apple Watch Series 4 start on September 21.
