Vivo has launched Vivo X20 Plus UD, the world’s first ever smartphone with an under-the-display fingerprint sensor, in China. The handset is priced at CNY 3,600, which approximately comes to 36,000 INR. It was speculated for quite some time that this brand new fingerprint sensor technology would be first introduced in either a Samsung or an Apple smartphone. However, the Chinese smartphone maker Vivo took everyone by surprise by taking the lead. The company first unveiled the handset at CES 2018 by showcasing this technology that is created by Synaptics.
Why using such a technology is advantageous is because the smartphone manufacturers will now have plenty of room to increase the display size along with keeping the fingerprint sensor on the front. It is important to note that this new fingerprint reader is comparatively slower than the conventional fingerprint sensor. But just like every other fingerprint scanner, it will get better in the future iterations.
