Vivo Nex is one of the unique smartphone available in the market. The major highlight of the Nex is the pop-out camera, no top notch and a in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone comes with a massive 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 91.2% screen-to-body ratio. However, the screen looks pixelated due to its fullHD+ (1080 x 2316 pixels) resolution covering the 6.59-inch screen estate. The front looks neat, thanks to the all-screen design, with no notch, camera or any other visible hardware component. Overall the device looks stunning and I never got bored looking at the pop-up mechanism at play.
The Vivo Nex is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. The performance is smooth with no visible signs of lag or stutter. Processor-intensive task such as multitasking works seamlessly without any hiccup. It runs on company’s Funtouch OS 4 UI based on Android Oreo 8.1. Overall the performance is good, but Vivo’s Funtouch 4 user interface give it a bad experience. By the way we can change User interface by installing custom launcher. One of the standout feature of the Nex is the under the screen fingerprint sensor. A touch on your screen can get the device unlock. However, the fingerprint scanner under-the-display is not as good as optical ones found elsewhere. The battery backup is really good, thanks to the large 4000mAh battery. With moderate usage, the Nex took 13 hours to reach 0% from 100%.
The highlight of the Vivo Nex was the pop-up camera. In order to remove top bezel or the notch, the camera need to shifted and Vivo implemented an unique solution – the pop-up camera. So, the moment you click selfie camera within camera app, the front camera pops up. To make it more realistic, even there is a pop up sound which can change(Sci-Fi, Machine, Rhythm) or mute. Now, talking about the picture quality, the 8-Megapixel front camera sensor can take sharp pictures including portrait mode. On the rear, there is combination of 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup. The 5MP used to capture depth, while the 12MP sensor captures impressive pictures even in low light.
Without a doubt, Vivo Nex has impressed us with its powerful and futuristic technologies embedded into it. However, the device experience ruins once you start using Vivo`s user interface.
