First Impression :
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the 3rd installment in a series inspired by Polish novels. Developed by CD Projekt Red, the game was one of the most anticipated games this year. Before release, all the noises coming from the Polish developers spoke of the game\’s massive and beautiful open world. After playing the game for many hours, we can safely say this is one of the best games we have ever played. And we haven\’t even played the previous installments in the Witcher series.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes us through Northern Kingdoms on a horse-back. Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist from previous installments returns as he wanders in search of his daughter, Ciri who is chased by the Wild Hunt. Geralt is the ultimate hero in the game with many abilities and skills. The main weapons in your arsenal are the 5 power signs. However, you will end up using IGNI sign more than the others. Geralt also picks up a lot of other weapons like crossbows. While you are on the hunt, it is also important to pick up flowers, animal meat and herbs. All these items can be used in alchemy.
For the first time in the series, we have been blessed with a massive open-world. You can go anywhere you want. Each village, mountain, lake and green pastures have been beautifully sketched. As mentioned earlier, while you are going from one village to another, it is highly important to collect items. You will also bump into wolves and wild dogs every now and then. Killing them gives you meat and tallows which can be sold for crowns or used in alchemy. In the game, you spend the most time with Roach, the horse. While, riding on a horse back sounds fun, it is time-consuming as well. However, if you have visited a place or discovered a new location, you can fast-travel between two locations.
The game has a well-scripted storyline which moves pretty well. While the main quest revolves around Ciri and the Wild Hunt chase, the side quests are quite intriguing as well. There are contracts offered to Geralt which put you face to face with wraiths and griffins. Each quest and contract gives you experience points which makes Geralt more powerful. You can also upgrade your combat ability, alchemical skills or magic. Every RPG needs strong characterization, and that is where Witcher 3 excels. Each character embeds perfectly with the storyline.
You are thrown into a training session with Vesemir, and it prepares you for forthcoming quests. The combat in Witcher 3 feels sluggish initially. However, after slaying a few wraiths and wolves, you feel at home. Geralt has an arsenal with swords, axes and more. You can easily parry or dodge attacks. The different types of armours are amazing, and you also have tools to repair the armour or weapons if you damage them during a combat. You can also make bombs, potions and oils to help you during combats. The Witcher 3 also has a fun card game called Gwent. It is fun to sit down for a game of Gwent with an inn keep or a merchant. Winning against them earns you different cards, and the game is truly addictive.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the best game available for next gen consoles, End of. The game offers a well scripted storyline, a massive open-world which is stunning, and plenty of quality content to make you hold onto the game for a long time. The best thing we can say about Witcher 3 is that you don\’t want it to end, not that it\’s going to end anytime soon. The replayability is immense and that makes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt a strong contender for ˜Game of the Year\’.
