A scrawny young man from Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Kharagpur, who had first seen a telephone at the age of 12, could remember all the telephone numbers would one day be the CEO of the worlds’ largest publicly traded company, Google at the age of 43, no one could say. But here we are, the genius, Sundar Pichai is now the maestro of the Google. He is leading the dynamic company in a direction that has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach internet and create a legacy that only the unusual and remarkable could conceptualize and actually materialize it into a process. This includes reinventing the way we use our technology to sending out balloons travelling at the edge of space in deserted areas in order to provide internet to such secluded places, Sundar Pichai is conquering the world one step at a time.

Pichai Sundarajan, popularly known as Sundar Pichai hails from the city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu in India. His interest in technology could be easily attributed to his father Regunatha Pichai, who was a senior electrical engineer for the General Electric Company. He would often be the spectator of his sons’ intrigue and curiosity when he would explain the different components and plans he was working on. The curiosity paved the way to a serious career option prompting him to study Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He went to the USA to pursue his M.S. from Stanford University in Material Sciences and Engineering, and later an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.

The Quest Conquered

‘Dedication is not what others expect of you, it is what you can give to others’ – Henry Miller

True to this quote what Pichai gave to Google is something that only a true visionary could have done. A decade of hard work from 2004, when he joined the company to 2014 when he was appointed as the CEO of the tech giant, he has contributed in almost every Google product we use. This includes Chrome, Google Drive, Maps, apps, Chrome OS, Android, Search, Ads, ATAP, and more.

Initially, when Sundar joined Google in 2004, he was appointed as Vice President of product management. But it was his idea to create the Google browser called Chrome, which brought him into the limelight. Under his leadership, the web browser Chrome was launched in 2008 and a year later he introduced web-based Chrome operating system for netbooks and desktop computers. With the increasing development, he was assigned the responsibility of Google Apps division, which he had gracefully taken over in 2012. Gradually over a period of a year, he was also leading the Android, famously known as the ostracized member of the Google family under his wing in March 2013. The inclusion and development of Android as a substantial part of the Google family which was initially considered rogue was the final push which led to his development, thus making him one of the most respectable and notable tech wizard of the Industry. He was approached by Twitter, as well as also considered as a potential CEO of Microsoft in August 2013 which proves that he is one of the notables in the industry. He hit another milestone in July 2017 when he was added as a respectable member of the board of Google after a rise of more than 50% was seen in Google’ shares making Alphabet the second most valuable U.S. company behind Apple. Moreover in a recent inaugural survey conducted by Reputation Institute named Sundar Pichai the world’s most trusted CEO.

His serene presence and a wider perspective of technology and its diverse use for the betterment have earned him fame and reputation. After taking over the reigns of the company Sundar has not limited the growth of Google to a monetary aspect, he has been constantly encouraging the egalitarian use of technology including the Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics, healthcare and smart computing for the next billion and when he stated Next billion, he is effectively approaching ideas that could boost the widespread reach of technology and internet across the globe. His net worth may be accounted for $1.2 Billion but his sharp mind and humble personality is worth far more than a Billion Bucks! After all, he is the Sundar Pichai of the Google.
