Be At A Premium

DESIGN

At first look, it looks like an old radio transistor, but it’s the new retro-looking Saregama Carvaan speaker with evergreen Hindi songs. The new Saregama Carvaan Premium is similar to its original Saregama Carvaan. There are few major difference that includes improved build quality, companion app available for both Android and iOS, AM and FM support. It also has a new AUX IN port to listen to music from other devices such as smartphones or music player. Unlike its predecessor, the Carvaan Premium is only available in Royal blue with a new mesh design.

PERFORMANCE

The new Saregama Carvaan Premium Wireless speaker is like an ordinary speaker, but the built-in music into the system is what separates the Carvaan different from all other competitors. Saregama holds a copyright to the music, so its worth buying both for music and the speaker. This speaker has a total of 5000 pre-loaded songs ranging from 13+ stations and a dedicated button to choose from Artistes, Specials and Geetmala. To choose your favourite songs from a wide list of retro songs can be a difficult task, so the speaker comes with a companion app for Android and iOS. The app makes it easy to quickly search your favourite songs and also create your own playlist which can be played whenever needed directly clicking from an app.

If you think this speaker can only play retro Hindi music then you are wrong. The Carvaan speaker has an option to play AM and FM radio stations, connect Bluetooth enabled players and even have an option for USB/AUX IN connectivity. AM and FM radio station does work well in cities without extending an antenna for coverage. For Bluetooth, we tested by connecting an Android smartphone and once it gets connected, the Bluetooth connection stayed strong even when we kept our device apart by 10 meters.

Now moving over to the sound quality, if you’re looking for great sound quality, then you should probably look at JBL, Sennheiser or Bose. The speaker lack bass, but it is not necessary for playing retro songs. But if you’re playing recent music from your smartphone, then probably you will lose the bass which can be well enjoyed on other branded speakers. In short, the company’s main focus was on its own content with better and clear audio quality.
