Samsung has finally made it official. The South Korean company is all set to take a rough and tough take on flagship brand Galaxy S8 phone. It is also known as the Galaxy S8 Active. The smartphone is all glass and metal. This smartphone is pretty much built to take a beating, similar to last year’s Galaxy S7 Active. And it is also similar to the Galaxy S6 Active from the previous year. However, the Galaxy S8 Active, this time, has dropped the Galaxy S8’s trademark Infinity edge-to-edge curves. This is the kind of ruggedness that only the Samsung Active phones can provide. Therefore, there are no surprises here. The Galaxy S8 Active is apparently the company’s toughest Galaxy phone yet. Also, it comes with a bigger battery size.
The Galaxy S8 Active has replaced the glass and metal build of the Galaxy S8. It has something more durable for the body, such as plastic and metal. Of course, obvious reasons, it also adds to the phone’s height and thickness. The back has a jagged, harsh texture for a secure grip. Also, the presence of side bumpers on top of a metal frame can help the phone from survive accidental drops. The phone is IP68 certified water and dust proof.
How Tough Is Tough?
Just like the LG G, the Galaxy S8 Active alleges to have passed the US Military Standard (MIL-STD) 810G tests for austerity. According to the company, the phone can endure introduction to high and low temperatures, salt, humidity, and shock. The fingerprint scanner is still located at the rear. The phone comes equipped with the Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant.
Given the specifications, the Galaxy S8 Active preserves quite a lot of hardware features of the original Galaxy S8. It has a bigger 4,000mAh battery (still non-removable), though. The phone also supports a single 32GB memory variant that supports expandable storage.
The Galaxy S8 Active sports a 5.8-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED display. It has an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which is pretty much similar to the Galaxy S8. But, it is without all those sleek curves. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, partnered with 4GB of RAM.
Similar to the Galaxy S7 Active, the Galaxy S8 Active will be AT&T exclusive in America. The cost price will be $850, which roughly translates into INR 54,267.
