Nokia Lumia 525 Review – The Upgraded yet Affordable Lumia

Share it:

First Impressions

Subtle is the word that could describe the new Lumia 525. The phone is perfectly sized to fit in any palm easily. A rectangle device with pointed corners and cuboid back, Lumia 525 seems decent when it comes to the design part. However it does not appear very different from its predecessor. Nokia has given a glossy finish to the back panel of the device which is finger print sensitive and one needs to clean the phone after sometime for not allowing the device to look untidy. The phone has a 4 inch display with 480×800 pixel resolution. The display appears bright and crisp and seems good from different viewing angles. Let\’s talk deeper about what phone has to offer apart from subtle and passive looks.

Review

Nokia Lumia 525 is packed with generous features and a massive Snapdragon S4 dual-core 1 GHz processor along with 1 GB RAM which gives a smoother user experience. We did not find any lag while operating the device, thanks to enhanced RAM. The internal memory of 8 GB is expandable up to whooping 64 GB with the help of microSD card slot. This one too, like other Nokia Lumia smartphones, comes with 7 GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage. Therefore we can say the device is aptly priced. The phone has IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colour pixel density which provides very rich colors to the phones display. Even on the auto mode the display appears clear but on high mode, it\’s a treat to eyes. Lumia 525 runs on Windows 8 and includes popular location and navigation apps such as HERE Drive, Here Maps and Here Transit.Coming on to the camera, the phone sports 5 megapixel camera with no flash and the phone does not have a front camera which is a disappointment. We could still digest a front camera dissatisfaction but wish Nokia could have provided flash for the rear camera. However, the phone contains a dedicated camera which is a rarity in budget phones. In good lighting condition, phone could click some pretty good shots however the pictures taken in low light were not that great. The phone is capable of recording 720p videos at 30 fps. Lumia 525 comes with Lumia Black update out of the box which lets you access some of the new apps like Nokia Camera, App folders etc.As an introductory offer, Nokia is offering select Gameloft games worth Rs 2,000 for free. To name a few, popular titles like Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 8, Assassin\’s Creed are available. This offer is valid only on select carriers like Vodafone, Airtel, Aircel, Reliance and Idea and is available on units purchased till 31st March. On the connectivity front, the phone supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and GPS with GLONASS for Nokia Drive and HERE maps. The web browsing experience on phone was good too. The phone has 1430 mAh battery which is capable of running the phone easily for whole day with one full recharge and with moderate usage.

Verdict

One cannot deny the fact that Lumia 525 is certainly a value-for-money deal. Along with the phones good looks and good build quality, it also features interesting specifications which makes it a good Windows phone to buy with an affordable price tag. The device is certainly an upgrade from its predecessor Lumia 520 which too was a decent Windows phone to buy. So all in all, I would recommend the device for those who want something fresh in terms of OS and UI and does not want to shed much money. A value for money deal, it certainly is.
