The Optoma UHD65 is a singlechip DLP projector with a RGB color wheel which accepts a full 4K support including HDR(High Dynamic Range). Removing it out of the box revealed the Optoma projector, a power cable, a fat user manual, a remote control and a lens cap attached to the projector itself. The UHD65 has a sturdy finish that didn’t feel flimsy. It comes with a common white glossy plastic build and a vent to dissipate heat from its body. The provided remote control has a well-spaced button and it even has a white backlight to use it in the dark. When we take a look at the rear, we can see that the UHD65 comes with a plethora of ports. There are two HDMI ports, each of which is slightly different from each other. One supports HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2, MHL 2.1 while the other supports HDMI 1.4a. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio in and audio out, a USB 2.0 port, VGA-In port, SPDIF Out, RS232C and a RJ45 Ethernet port.
Under its shiny white hood, the Optoma UHD65 4K projector sports a single DLP chip from Texas Instruments that delivers 4K resolution. This is paired with a 240W lamp with 2,200 lumens and an impressive contrast ratio of 1,200,000:1. The UHD65 also integrates a lens that offers 1.6x optical zoom which makes it even more better. An interesting addition that makes the UHD65 a complete package is the fact that it comes with an integrated 2x4W loudspeaker housed in the rear side so that you needn’t have to lug around a set of boomboxes.
We tested it thoroughly with a laptop while running it continuously for more than 8 hours in 1080P and 4K resolution. The UHD65 delivers stunning results and also offered realistic colours without being overly saturated. It also offers deep black levels on screen and it works best in a completely darkened room where you can fully appreciate its capabilities. The UHD65 can project up to 140-inch, which makes it the ideal size for the living room.
