Modi Launches the ‘Made in India’ Mitra at GES Hyderabad

Mitra is a home-grown robot manufactured by a nascent startup called Invento Robotics in located Bangalore.

On Tuesday, 28 November 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Adviser to US President Donald Trump Ivanka Trump inaugurated the Global Entrepreneur Summit. This is a three-day summit held in Hyderabad. Narendra Modi and Ivanka Trump inaugurated the event by pressing a button on a locally invented robot called Mitra.

Mitra is manufactured by a startup called Invento Robotics. It is located in Bangalore and was set up in October 2015. The startup is founded by Balaji Viswanathan. He used to work in Silicon Valley and companies like Microsoft. Viswanathan was in the media recently because he was the most followed person on Quora.

This magnificent startup company has been diligently working with National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) as well as Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM)

“Mitra has been completely designed and developed in India. The idea behind the robot was to provide customised and contextual information to people,” said Kaundinya Panyam, who is a senior company executive.

What is Mitra?

The ethnic Mitra functions on a propriety operating system. The startup has made multiple versions of the robot available for sale. It has also customized the robot for different sectors like banking and corporates areas. It makes use of different chipsets, which depend on the personalization and combinations that are incorporated within this humanoid. Some of the versions also use Qualcomm’s chipsets.

The humanoid features a fiberglass body. It has a touchscreen on its chest. It is useful when there’s a lot of noise. Mitra function for 8-10 hours on a single charge.

This humanoid can also be used in various use cases such as a smart DJ, party photographer, or live-tweeter.

Mitra will also offer you a facial recognition technology. According to the company, it is pretty accurate. This allows the robot to identify the person quickly and deliver the required services.

The robot is fully capable of understanding various different languages. Currently, Mitra can support only English and Kannada. Yet the company states that soon it will be adding the support for the Hindi language too.

“Our robots can recognize speech in multiple languages and engage customers with smart conversations to provide better customer engagement and increase sales,” the company mentioned on its website.
