The Surface Book is a hybrid laptop model made by Microsoft, which is trying to combine a lot of power and performance into this laptop. It’s twopiece design is common in the Windows world, either it can be used as a laptop or as a tablet, depending on the need. The Surface Book uses a software switch located at the base which when pressed latches are released and the display easily pops off and converts into a tablet mode. You can either use the screen as a tablet or dock the screen backwards for presentations. The laptop is made up of grey magnesium alloy and also sports a dynamic fulcrum hinge. It looks gorgeous but that hinge leaves a gap when it’s closed. It also makes a thick machine that measured about 15mm and the 15-inch model feels bulky especially at 1.9kg. The Microsoft Surface Book offers all the necessary port that is required by common users. It has a proprietary magnetic charging port which feels exactly same as the MacBook’s magnetic charging concept. It even offers a full-size 2xUSB port along with a Thunderbolt port and a headphone jack. It could have been even better if USB-C charging port was included instead of a proprietary surface adapter.
The Microsoft Surface Book comes in a various variant, but the product we are testing is powered by Intel Core i5-6300U processor. This laptop also offered 8GB RAM for smooth and intense multitasking. While testing, we opened 13 chrome tabs along with VLC playing 1080p content simultaneously and it surprisingly managed well without any hiccup. The Surface book also packs blazing fast 256GB of SSD to perform quick read and writes task compared to traditional HDD. Microsoft also provided the Surface Pen as an additional accessory. The pen features pressure detection and a magnetic dock that lets you hang it from the side of the machine when you’re not using it. Talking about the display, it comes with a 13.5-inch full HD resolution with 3:2 aspect ratio which makes it look bigger than the same display with 16:9 aspect ratio.

Microsoft Surface Book is a Windows 10 Laptop that offers impressive design and build quality, though there are few shortcomings including a thickness considering another laptop at the same price. The Surface Book may be a better choice if you are emphasising more on a powerful tablet. For someone looking for first Windows experience, the Surface Book is the laptop to beat.
