Microsoft Launches Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL

Windows 10 Phone that works as a PC Microsoft recently announced their first ever Windows 10 phones in India Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. These flagship offerings from Microsoft will lead the Windows 10 experience on phones in India. Both devices feature a QuadHD AMOLED display featuring 518 ppi for Lumia 950 XL (5.7 display) and 564ppi for Lumia 950 (5.2 Display).

While the Lumia 950 is powered by the Snapdragon 808 SOC, the Lumia 950 XL packs the flagship Snapdragon 810 SOC coupled with 3GB RAM on both. Both these phones also feature a massive 20MP sensor at the rear which is capable of shooting 4K videos on the go and feature OIS. There\’s a 5MP wide angled front camera that is capable of shooting 1080p videos.

There\’s 32GB ROM on both of these phones with MicroSD expansion up to 200 GBs. All this hardware does require some god juice and the Microsoft has powered the Lumia 950 with 3000mAh Battery while the 950 XL gets a 3340mAH unit. Both these phones feature a USB-C fast charging port and wireless charging as well. Microsoft has future proofed these devices on the hardware front to say the least.

While Windows 10 features Cortana that now allows her to give news updates, calendar reminders, messages, appointments or even flight information, there is a new iris security system which is one of the first we have ever witnessed in a phone. Retina scan security feels like a sci-fi thing but has been brought to reality thanks to the Windows Hello Beta program. These Lumia phones are made of polycarbonate material and although sturdy, do not really stand against the phones of similar price range.

But, that said, there is something that Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL can do, which many or must we say, no other smartphone can do! Both Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL feature Continuum for phones, enhanced by the optional Microsoft Display Dock accessory. This Windows 10 feature allows people to use their phone like a PC by connecting it to a monitor and transforming it for larger-screen entertainment, or adding a keyboard and mouse to work like a PC with Windows 10 apps like Microsoft Office, while simultaneously taking calls or performing other tasks.

As an introductory offer, the Microsoft Display Dock will be offered for free to people who pre-book these devices. Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will be available for pre-booking at Microsoft Priority Resellers across the country, Microsoft Store on and retail chains of Croma, Reliance and Sangeetha at a best buy price of INR 43,699 and INR 49,399 respectively. Airtel users get double data offers as well.

Microsoft has pulled out a true flagship this time around and we do have high hopes for the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Stay tuned as we bring you a full review of these devices and do let us know your comments on the same. Would you buy a phone that can run as a PC?
