The Asus ZenBook UX331UAL confirms how far Ultrabooks have come in recent years. Though the laptop is dealing with extremely tight dimensions and lightweight construction, it still manages to pack great hardware specifications. Speaking of ports, there is one USB Type-C port, HDMI, micro-SD Card slot, 2x USB and a 3.5mm Headphone jack. The laptop has a small little cut out at the bottom like MacBook and other laptops to make it easier to open. For sounds, it has two speakers at the back with Harman/Kardon audio technology to provide loud and incredible sound. The keyboard is fully backlit and looks quite compact as it squeezes to fit inside a 13.9mm slim chassis. The trackpad below the keyboard is really nice and it’s very responsive to track finger gestures. This time they move the fingerprint sensor away from the trackpad and it is located on the right side, just below the keyboard. The fingerprint is fast and login to windows within a seconds. Talking about the display, Asus ZenBook UX331UAL has a display-to-body ratio of 80% means that the Zenbook UX331 is a 13.3-inch laptop in a 12-inch case. The ZenBook is slimmer than most of the laptop out there in the market. It is 13.9 inches thick and weighs 985 grams, lighter than the 12-inch MacBook.
ZenBook squeezes in an 8th-generation Coffee Lake quad-core i5-8250U processor clocked at 1.6GHz and backs it up with 8GB of DDR4 RAM. Despite the size of this ultrabook, the i5 8th generation, which consumes max 15 watts. It’s the same as you’d find in much thicker laptops. The new Intel Core i5-8250U is very fast and perform every task with ease, even multi-tasking are handle smoothly by Zenbook which was quite surprising considering the size of the laptop. Read and Write speed is also better because it packed with faster 256GB of NVMe SSD, that means storing data and opening large files are faster on ZenBook. The laptop does have an Intel UHD Graphics 620, which is capable of handling the basic graphics intensive task. However, this laptop is not capable of running any high-end games due to discrete graphics. The keyboard has proper spacing between the keys are also quiet and backlit, with three brightness levels to choose from, so overall this keyboard is one of the best you can find on a mid-range ultrabook right now. We can say Asus has managed to get keyboards right on their laptops. There’s a 50 W battery inside the Zenbook UX331 and that’s not bad, considering most other Zenbooks get a 50W battery these days.
I’m impressed that ASUS came this close to perfection. Thanks to its all-magnesium design, this ultrabook is lightweight and compact – making it very useful for travel and presentations. Don’t forget this ultrabook performs well, offers good battery life and packs a great keyboard and trackpad.
