LG G6 officially announced at Mobile World Congress 2017

LG G6 unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona. It’s a flagship phone replaces last year’s LG G5, a modular phone which didn’t impress the consumers. However, the LG G6 is an entirely different from the LG G5. LG has ditched interchangeable accessories in favour of more traditional designed with a hugely impressive array of specs. The LG G6 features a massive 5.7-inch near edge-to-edge QHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio into a phone that’s considerably smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL.

The unusual ratio allows a device to offer a large display in a smaller form factor. This has created a screen that features a stunning 2880 x 1440 pixel resolution. It also makes the device ideal for split-screen applications and a movie watching in cinematic formats. The G6 is also the first mobile phone to support Dolby Vision high dynamic range video technology.

Under the hood, the device is pack’s last year’s Snapdragon 821 chipset which might be a deal-breaker for most people. It has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with expandable storage slot via a microSD card slot. LG G6 is IP68 certified, means it is dust and waterproof when submerged in 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes. Unlike LG G5, the G6 sports a non-removable 3300mAh battery, that should allow atleast a day of usage.

In the camera department, LG sticks with dual camera sensor, but now offers dual 13MP sensor and 125-degree viewing angles. There’s no Optical Image Stabilization(OIS) on the wide or normal angle, so software stabilization is used instead. The cameras also offer 2x optical zoom and 16x digital zoom. The 5MP front-facing selfie camera will also have a wide-angle lens, though a little narrower at 100-degrees.

On the software side, the new flagship featuring Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and also have the latest LG UX 6.0 software over the top, which comes with several new features. LG G6 is the first non-Pixel phone with Google Assistant.

LG G6 will be available in South Korea from March 9th. However, there is no information about the availability and the pricing of the smartphone yet.
