PC gaming keeps on growing, thanks to the popularity of eSports. Lenovo, the brand famous for its Thinkbook and Yoga family for making reliable and sleek notebooks. They decided to get serious about gaming and announced Legion series.

BUILD

Lenovo sent us the midrange Legion Y720 to check out. Out of the box, the Lenovo Legion Y720 feels premium and build quality is above average. Y720 comes with aluminium and plastic chassis for a premium feel. The aluminium parts have a brushed cross-hatch pattern that gives it a carbon fibre-like appearance and on the top, it has a stylized Y logo that lights up red. Overall, the Legion Y720 body has a red and black theme which are the common theme for gaming laptops.

SPEAKERS

For sound, Lenovo sought help from JBL for the audio system. It offers 2.1 speaker setup with two 2-watt speakers and a 3-watt subwoofer and Dolby Atmos certification. The speakers get pretty loud with good clarity, that takes listening experience to the next level.

Hardware

Inside the Legion Y720, you’ll find an Intel Core i7 7700HQ processor coupled with 16GB RAM. Lenovo also added a NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB graphics card which isn’t going to perform like the GTX 1070 or 1080, but most of the game would still work out without any lag. Boot and load times were fast, thanks to the 128GB PCIe SSD along with 1TB HDD.

Gaming

When I started out playing Battlefield 1, I kept everything in ultra settings. The game kept a great frame during gameplay at 60fps max and 52fps at its lowest. Trying out a different game like Need for Speed, Titanfall and GTA V, the frame rate stayed within a range of 50- 60fps.
