On 6th August, Honor launched the Honor Play, as the name suggests the phone is a dedicated gaming device. The Honor Play packs some of the leads specs at a competitive price. The Chinese mobile manufacturers are highly credited for their ability to squeeze in the latest features at a passable price for its audience. Moreover, after the recent Q3 earnings report by Huawei, the parent company of the Honor, it is not surprising how price plays a major role in strengthening the position of these Chinese mobile manufacturers in a competitive market like India. The first impression of the Honor Play directly reflects how the phone was made for the gamer who is enthusiastic about getting a modern and updated gaming smartphone without creating a dent in their bank balance.
The Honor Play has GPU Turbo, Kirin970 with AI Processor meant to provide the best 4D Gaming Experience. The Honor Play is perhaps the first phone meant to provide 4D gaming experience. Compared to the premium phones such as Asus ROG phone and Xiaomi’s Black Shark which are specifically meant for gaming but an expensive affair, the Honor play is the cheaper alternative.
The Honor Play has a 6’3 inch screen with 1080p+ IPS LCD display with an unusual aspect ratio of 19.5:9 which accounts for 89% Screen-to-body Ratio. The phone has the Kirin 970 Chipset with “Neural Processing Unit” (NPU) dedicated for accelerating Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to perform AI tasks. The GPU Turbo Technology is meant to boost the display as well as provide top of the line graphics. Besides the processor, the Honor Play has a battery of 3,750mAh battery supported by fast charging, a feature we were all looking forward to.
In terms of Camera, Honor has introduced AI technology incorporated in the camera which can identify the background scene and accordingly adjust the settings required to capture the perfect shot. The Honor play has a dual rear camera of 16+ 2 MP along with a front camera of a 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture which supports face unlock. According to the company statement, the AI technology is supposed to identify 22 objects in real time and 500+ scenarios in real time.
The Honor Play comes in a wide range of colours including Midnight Black, Navy Blue and UltraViolet and in two variants including 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version, and 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version. The prices are Rs 19,999 and Rs 23,999 respectively. The Honor Play will be available on sale on the e-commerce giant, Amazon.
