Google is definitely planning to bring a change next year. However, the thing to be noted is the Google Drive service is not going away, only the Google Drive app is going to be annulled. This is because the Google Drive app is getting replaced. Let me enlighten you about the Drive’s future!

Didn’t sync: Don’t Worry!

The Google Drive apps for Mac and Windows are coming to an end next year. Basically, that’s not a very major issue to worry about as in July, Google released Backup and Sync. To be honest, most of the users are not even bothered because they really don’t rely on the desktop apps of Google. They mainly use Drive in a browser or phones/tablets. So, if you are one of them, there’s no additional requirement of sync software. If you anyhow belong to this mass, just ignore the news, you have nothing to worry about.

Backup and Sync

The Drive and Photos desktop apps for Windows PCs and Macs are getting replaced by the Google free utility. You can still use Backup and Sync for backing up the contents of the whole thing on the PC or the selected folders. It is quite an easy tool to use if you were any which ways syncing with its Drive app predecessor. If it’s new to you, you should figure out “Get started with Google’s Backup and Sync app.”

Google Drive File Stream

Let’s talk about the funny thing about the previous week’s fake news about Google. Google unveiled that the Drive is going to discontinue from March in a blog post for IT administrators that provides Google’s G Suite productivity tools for employees. So, basically, this was not even a concern for the regular users.  Also, I am also helping you clear confusion about the Google Drive File Stream which is a tool mentioned in that post. As per Google, “it’s a new desktop application that allows you to quickly access all of your Google Drive files on demand, directly from your computer, meaning you use almost none of your hard drive space and spend less time waiting for files to sync.” However, your workplace might launch something like that and you should not be worrying about it for your own laptop.

Google Drive: What else you need to know?

The Google Drive Support for Windows or Mac will be ending on 11th December 2017. Also, the apps will stop working on both platforms starting from 12th March 2018. So, you have got a lot of time to implement Backup and Sync. There is no further news about the same after that. And, the good news for you is, this service is anyhow not ending.
