Google buys parts of HTC in order to make more Pixel phones. A team from HTC had initially helped Google to manufacture its flagship mobile: Pixel.
Google is purchasing a part of HTC. More specifically speaking, Google is all set to purchase that particular HTC team, which initially joined forces with Google in order to reinvent the Pixel phones. In the previous year, HTC aided Google to make the Pixel and Pixel Xl phones. This year, HTC has also allegedly helped the online giant to create the Pixel 2. Google mentions that this contract with HTC seemed more of talent acquisition; however, the deal has turned out to be pretty expensive, as Google is paying $1.1 billion to HTC for hiring its skilled staff. This news was broken out hours after HTC declared that it was ready to stop the trading of its shares on Wednesday, 20 September 2017.
Why did Google Buy HTC?
Google has acquired a whole bunch of engineers and resources that HTC had sincerely allocated to the Pixel phones. Google will also attain non-exclusive rights to some of HTC’s intellectual property. This apparently refers to the features that already exist in the HTC phones. All these technologies will almost certainly wind up in Google Pixel phones. One such example will be the “squeezable frame”. HTC uses this technology inside the U11. Reports suggest that Google to may include such a technology in the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL mobiles.
However, this deal doesn’t mean HTC will not manufacture mobiles anymore. The mobile manufacturing company declared to the world about its deal with Google, and HTC also marked that it will not stop making smartphones. Actually, HTC also stated that the company is working on a new flagship phone. This new phone will be released before the end of the year. Reports also hint that the new device will be based on an updated hardware for the U11 smartphone. Apart from cellphones, HTC has also made a heavy investment in making virtual reality headsets. The company masters making the Vive VR headset, and the company will also continue to keep on working on it.
