How does it feel out of the box?If you get the Asus Zenbook UX303UB out of the box, it looks like a sibling to the Macbook from a different mother. It isn’t a cheap affair and keeps the essence of the Zenbook, for its elegance and great looks. Nevertheless, the 13 inch notebook has a very premium look covered with metal on the exterior side. The richness of gold, signature design element, spun metal concentric circles are the prominent features of the Notebook. It is so lightweight weighing less than 2 kgs, which is very light to hold in the hands. The trackpad has been given a fine matte finish with bezels curving on the edges of the pad. Overall the aesthetics of the ultra book is amazing. How does it perform? It houses an isolated keyboard giving the fingers the cushion to type easily without any problems whatsoever. This next generation of the ultra book performs way better than its previous siblings. Why not? When it is packed well on the latest generation of 2.3 GHz Intel core i5-6200 U chip that supports Turbo boost speeds up to 2.8 GHz, it proves it can take heavy load. The graphics are handled well by NVIDIA GeForce GT 940M with 2GB GDDR3 of memory card to give you all the powered performance. We opened 3 multi windows loaded with bunch of tabs to see the load it carries. Operating on an 8GB RAM, multi tasking and switching between three windows was smooth and once also, there wasn’t a lag forcing the browser to freeze. Although it isn’t a gaming notebook, older games like Fifa 14 worked well on medium settings. The Notebook features a LED-backlit offering decent contrast and brightness levels. Watching HD movies and reading texts on a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels is really crisp. It isn’t an IPS panel, so you would view discernible colour shift from acute angles. The audio system is integrated with Asus’ Sonic Master audio with Bang and Olufsen technology, which gives you distortion free sound and clear output levels. The drawback lies in its battery life, wherein it has the juice to last up to only 3 hours at full screen brightness and high performance preset mode on Windows 10. When it comes to connectivity, it has 3 USB 3.0 ports, dedicate port for HDMI and mini DisplayPort with headphone and microphone combo. It also features a USB to Ethernet adapter for wired connection and mini DP to VGA connector for converting it into a projector, to turn it into an office boardroom. Apart from being fast and multi tasking wasn’t problematic, there was a notable issue, which was a concern that is Google Chrome either crashed or took forever to open. What’s so special? The ASUS ZenBook UX303UB comes with an ambient light sensor to dynamically alter the laptop’s screen brightness and trigger the keyboard’s backlighting which you can toggle on or off through the Function+A key combo which is a nice feature to enable, especially where you want to save the ultrabook’s battery. It lets you watch movies or type in the night as the keyboard screen lights up, so every alphabet is visible even if there is complete darkness. The built in HD 720p webcam lets you Skype really well without any distorted images. The best part is, it gives you storage capacity up to 1TB storage. With that mammoth space, no need to worry about the space and since we loaded it videos, movies, series, songs, etc. it worked efficiently well. What’s your final take?Definitely, the ultra book hit the sweet spot with what it offers. With that price, you are getting a twin of the Macbook and there isn’t much to complain about. We did expect the Zenbook to feature a USB type C port to support fast charging as the battery life isn’t that great. It did have its lows, but it is a good notebook for official and personal purpose under that price range.
