How does it feel out of the box?
The Smartron t.book is a good looking 2-in-1 laptop. The dual-shade combination (orange and silver) looks quite chic and adds a premium feel to the overall package. The build quality of the main unit is quite decent. However, the detachable keyboard doesn’t feel that sturdy. The main unit also has a kickstand at the rear which is adjustable but has sharp edges which need to be taken care of.
How does it perform?
Powered by a 5th generation Intel Core M 64 Bit processor, the t.book has just about enough grunt to do your daily tasks. During the test, we were operating around 10 tabs on Google Chrome and along with music playback on VLC player and the t.book performed just about fine. However, if you plan to some serious gaming or editing on softwares like Photoshop, Illustrator, then you are better off with a normal laptop in the same price range. The trackpad is a major disappointment and is very prone to ghost touches to such an extent that it hampered the overall usability of the laptop.
What’s so special?
The 2-in-1 concept has been picking up off lately mainly because of the added convenience. The t.book does feel special mainly because of its design and also the fact that it is a “Made-in-India” product by a Hyderabad based tech startup which has been making a lot of news recently. Features like the cloud storage certainly add more to the overall package.
What is the verdict?
The Smatron t.book currently doesn’t have a direct competition in its price range and can be considered as a cheaper alternative to the Microsoft Surface Book if performance isn’t your main requirement. The t.book is good enough for your basic everyday tasks like browsing, watching movies and comes with the added convenience of a touch screen with decent battery life.
